Okay it looks like the Skirmish Line is probably going to be back in business. So here are a couple of updates on stuff I’ve been doing.

Konflikt 47: that’s right, Konflikt 47 or K 47 as its also known. A year or so ago, I would have been the last person on earth to think that I would’ve gotten into something like K 47 but I have. I used to play bolt action first addition. That did not go so well to say the least. I wound up disliking the game. But then an interesting thing happened, warlord games brought out a second addition of bolt action. I heard that it was very good and much improved over the first edition so I got a copy and guess what I liked it. The rules had been changed improved modified and a lot of my complaints seemingly were answered and so it was like okay this looks like it be all right.

Then, I began to take notice of K 47. At first, I was skeptical. It seemed like just another giant stomping robot game set in World War II. But since I liked weird war to I figured I’d at least look at the core rulebook. I’m glad I did the background is well written and makes sense the stories good the meta-plot had some very good historical feel to it. I liked it so I decided to go all in.

The second deciding factor were the models themselves. K 47’s diesel punk aesthetic is very well realized the American combat walkers actually look like something Detroit would’ve turned out during the war there really do the powered armor infantry yeah it looks pretty cool I was very happy with it they looked good and would make a really nice display on the table.

So I was hooked. Now I’ve got both American and German forces. As soon as I can figure out how to upload photos from my iPhone I’ll be more than happy to post some stuff here.

SAGA: Secong Edition SAGA is coming right along. I’ve just finished a six point Viking war band and am now working on Norman’s for the horseman in me. If anything, I like the second edition better than the first and I love the first. So all goes well there.

Well that about covers this brief update. The new software works. Hopefully I will be motivated to make more posts.

My Romans for SAGA

When studio Tomahawk brought out Aetius and Arthur, they opened the door to the early Middle Ages gave a fascinating view of the militaries involved. One of the most popular if not the most popular faction is Late Imperial Roman. I’ve always been interested in this particular part of Roman history. Now, I had a way to bring them to the wargame stable as part of a game that I really like. After countless hours of painting (with still some more to go) I have got my Roman war band ready to go. Here it is.

Dux Bellorum (warlord)

As you can see, he is a special ended fellow. I have named him maximus phallus erectus and yes he is a descendent of the (in) famous big us Dicus who was a Roman official somewhere in the East got caught up in some kind of strange religious thing I don’t know. I realize looking at the photo especially that the horse could probably use some more detailing and that’s all right I will get to that. Anyway he is my mounted warlord.

Equites (hearthguards)

These are my hearth guard known as Equites. There are eight of them total broken down into 2 x4 man groups known as red squadron and blue squadron. Most of the time I deploy them as a single eight-man unit. I mean there is nothing like having a basic movement of 12 inches and smacking the opposition with at least 16 attack dice. Now that’s a mailed fist.

Pedites (Warriors)

This is my main battle line. It is the heart and soul of my Roman war band. It consists of four points of warriors organized into three units. There are two10 figure units and one 12 figure unit. This gives me a solid battle line of good infantry. Although cavalry was in the ascendancy at this time, the Romans still relied on their heavy infantry formations.

I also have a unit of eight warrior archers as well as a 12 figure unit of Levy armed with shield and spear. I can plug these in as needed. The Roman army is a combined arms Army that is very flexible on the SAGA battlefields.

In future posts, I will examine the Roman battle board as well as look at the Picts and the Saxons. Until then… Have fun play games!

Yet Another Year End Special

Well, it’s that time of year again when I have my year-end special blog post which is me explaining and promising that really I will do better in the coming year. Well I’m not gonna do that I will however tell you that I wish to increase my media footprint and that I will try my best to do so.

2016 was a year of ups and downs. As far as gaming goes it was pretty good year. It was mostly ups. I got into a new gaming era. I now own Team Yankee from Battlefront Games and its supplement Leopard 2 also from Battlefront Games. Team Yankee is styled as the cold war goes hot in the 1980s. Well, in real life it almost did a couple of times in fact. So not only did I buy the rulebooks I also bought the 15 mm models to go with it I now have a West German kampfgruppe and and am building a Soviet tank force.

I’ve also been busy getting back into SAGA. I will be discussing that in a future blog post. Lion Rampant also rumbles along quite well thank you as well as a new version of an old game Sharp Practice. I have Sharp Practice 2 and believe me it is a much improved version and I’m glad I got it.
